What I Read in April | Wrap up | 2020
Taking full advantage of my quarantined life in April , I finished 20 books last month. Out of 20, I read 7 books out of 12 from my planned TBR. Overall it was a great month!
* Technically I read two classics, but I added the second one in mystery/thriller genre.
BOOKS I READ IN APRIL
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn : This was from my April TBR and my Introduction to Gillian Flynn. 3 Stars read - disturbing but a little underwhelming. Read my full review here
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie: This was my favourite read from the month. I just love classic mystery/thriller with ‘trapped in an island/house/cabin/jungle’ kind of premise and this was one of the best I have read with this trope. Full 5 Stars!
Full Review here
Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter : Another author I finally read from! It was completely disturbing and suspenseful. I was not a big fan of characters and there were few (racist) things that bothered me. Hence, overall gave this 4 Stars!
The Passengers We Cannot See by The Behrg: This was a netgalley ARC I got in March and finally read in April. This was a Collection of 15 horror short stories, few were quite innovative & I liked, few were just a slog to get through. Overall did not connect with the author's writing style. Gave 3 Stars!
Full Review here
Emma by Jane Austen: A Jane Austen classic I read after a very long time. It was okay, I just did not care for majority of this book. But really liked the Emma's character development and the premise. Gave 3 Stars to this!
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng : Very Sad and emotional book. I went into this expecting more mystery but it was a contemporary book at its core with a little bit mystery. Overall 4 Stars! You can read my full review here
Maiden Lane Series (BOOK #6 - #12.5) by Elizabeth Hoyt : A Historical Romance series which started few years ago but did not continue. Decided to pick this one again and managed to binge read the whole series. I read 7 books & 3 Novellas in this series. It was an awesome experience.
Duke of Midnight (Maiden Lane #6) - 3 Stars
Darling Beast (Maiden Lane #7) - 3.5 Stars
Dearest Rogue (Maiden Lane #8)- 4 Stars
Sweetest Scoundrel (Maiden Lane #9)- 4.5 Stars
Duke of Sin (Maiden Lane #10)- 3.75 Stars
Once Upon A Moonlit Night (Maiden Lane #10.5) - 4 Stars
Once Upon a Christmas Eve (Maiden Lane #10.7) - 3 Stars
Duke of Pleasure (Maiden Lane #11) - 4 Stars
Duke of Desire (Maiden Lane #12) - 4 Stars
Once Upon a Maiden Lane (Maiden Lane #12.5) - 4 Stars
The Morgan Brothers (Book #1 - #4) by Morgan Rowe ; Randomly picked this series after hearing good things about this. Overall a disappointing journey, but really liked the first book!
Hero (Book #1) - 4.5 Stars
Captain (Boom #2) - 3 Stars
Ball Peen Hammer (Book #3) - 3.5 Stars
Mister Bodyguard (Book #4) - 2 Stars

What I read in March | Wrap up | 2020
So, I read total 5 out of 8 books from my planned TBR and had pretty good experience with most of them!
A short scifi story by a completely new author, this was for the challenge - 'A book you meant to read in 2019' and I finally read it. It was very weird and not completely what I expected, but really enjoyed.
My Goodreads review for The Test :
Really liked this one. Kind of a dystopian world where one has to pass this messed up secret test for british citizenship.Things gets weirder as we follow this test. I loved the 90% of the book, but that last chapter kind of brought this book down for me a little. It was not a very satisfying conclusion for me, I wanted a little more explanation. Hence, giving it 4 stars instead of 5.
THE BROKEN GIRLS BY SIMONE ST JAMES
Hands down, one of the best mystery/thriller I have ever read so far this year. It was for the 'A Book with three word title' challenge in the TBR. I just loved the suspenseful, creepy and historic elements of this book. Loved the characters, friendship and ghost elements in the story.Full 5 stars!
You can read my detailed review here
I read another Stephen King and this was definitely the worst book I have ever read by him, as well as the worst book of the March. It was part of 'A Book published in the month of your given birthday' (which is March) TBR challenge. Overall Rating -2/5
Full Review here
This was for the challenge 'A Book with a nature word in the title' and honestly, it was the most disappointing read for me in March.I gave it 3 out of 5 stars!
My Goodreads review for Pines :
Another favourite for the March. I read this under 'A Book with atleast four star rating on goodreads' challenge. This book has very high rated reviews and I completely stand by them. Loved all the characters, it was so heartwarming and I loved the 'found family' trope in this so much. It made me happy, sad as well as mad - And I loved this for enticing so much emotion in such a short time! Full 5 Stars!
Apart from my TBR, I also read a contemporary romance series
Still, overall, it was a good time!:-)
Book #1 Prize of A Kiss : 3.5 Stars
Book #2 To Professor, With Love: 4 Stars
Book #3 Be My Hero: 4 Stars
Book #4 With Every Heartbeat: 4 Stars

Book #6 Worth it: 2 Stars
Book #7 The Girl's Got Secrets: 4.5 Stars

PINES (WAYWARD PINES #1) BY BLAKE CROUCH
This was for the challenge 'A Book with a nature word in the title' and honestly, it was the most disappointing read for me in March.I gave it 3 out of 5 stars!
My Goodreads review for Pines :
Not sure how I feel about this one.I really liked the overall premise and the little bit of action we had in last few chapters.Otherwise, I was not a big fan of characters and the middle part of the book was kind of okay.
Need to process this one a little. Will be picking the second book after a while.
A MAN CALLED OVE BY FREDRIK BACKMAN
Another favourite for the March. I read this under 'A Book with atleast four star rating on goodreads' challenge. This book has very high rated reviews and I completely stand by them. Loved all the characters, it was so heartwarming and I loved the 'found family' trope in this so much. It made me happy, sad as well as mad - And I loved this for enticing so much emotion in such a short time! Full 5 Stars!
Apart from my TBR, I also read a contemporary romance series
FORBIDDEN MEN (BOOK #1-9) BY LINDA KAGE
This was all over the place, I loved most of the books but few were also little underwhelming. I binge read 9 out of 10 books in the series and loved most of them. I just did not like the sixth book at all, I did not like the overall premise and did not like the heroine but loved the hero.Still, overall, it was a good time!:-)
Book #1 Prize of A Kiss : 3.5 Stars

What I Read in February | Wrap up | 2020
I read 7 books in February, out of which only two were from my planned TBR (I know, I suck at this!). So, let's discuss them briefly here!
Firstly, from my TBR, I finished 2 books and started one but did not finish.
THE PERFECT MOTHER BY CAROLINE MITCHELL - This was one of the eArc I requested from Netgalley. Overall, it was an engaging read, even if a little weak for a mystery/ thriller. Had a very strong start but got weak by the end. Overall 3.5 Stars!
My Full review can be read here
My Full review can be read here
THE MARTIAN BY ANDY WEIR - My first SciFi of 2020 and I definitely started with a good one. Overall loved the characters and story. But it was pretty heavy on scientific content, which kind of bored me in some places, hence the 4 stars for this!
Full review here
Also started 'City of Stairs' from my TBR but I was not in the mood so set that aside at that time. Will be picking it up again when I am in the mood.
I was on a big reading slump in the first half of the month. To get out of it I picked a lot of romance back to back. Most of them were rereads and I chose different kind of romances here!
FAKE OUT (FAKE BOYFRIEND #1) BY EDEN FINLEY - I wanted to read some mm romance with fake boyfriend element in it and got this one as recommendation. This is the first book in the series and started out pretty strong and funny. I totally enjoyed the first half of the book. But it got quiet slow and drama heavy in the second half and the cheesiness and ending did not impress me a lot.
Still a solid read for this particular trope, but not my favourite!
Rating - 3.5 Stars
LEO LOVES ARIES (SIGNS OF LOVE #1) BY ANYTA SUNDAY - Another MM romance I picked based on the recommendations and good reviews. Another first one in the series and a new author for me. It was as expected an entertaining read for me.
Thoroughly enjoyed it! I liked both MCs, a solid 4 stars read for me. It was not one of my favourite in the genre but a good read for sure!
WIN SOME LOSE SOME BY SHAY SAVAGE - To make myself feel better I re-read one of my favourites from last year. A complete happy experience for me. Finished this in one sitting and it was amazing. This is a YA straight romance which focuses on Matthew Rohan', a teenager with 'Asperger’s Syndrome'. We follow his romance with a classmate and how he gets out of his comfort zone a bit by bit after developing a sort of friendship with her. It is such a sweet and feel good book with some heavy topics discussed. Still, it is one of my comfort read!
Full 5 Stars!
MAIDEN LANE BOOK (#4 & #5) by Elizabeth Hoyt - I read first five books in this series years ago but did not continue after that. In Feb, on a whim, I kind of picked the fourth book in this historical romance series. Had no memory of anything here so it was kind of a fresh reread for me. I kind of remember liking it earlier but this was a disappointing reread for me this time for both the books!
I gave 'Thief of Shadows' (Book #4)
But the real blow came with the fifth book 'Lord of Darkness'. I absolutely hated our heroine 'Margaret' with a burning passion! So, even though the story was good and I loved the hero, our heroine kind of ruined the book for me. A 1.5 Stars read for me! I have not read any book in the series after that, but this one made me kind of weary to read the sixth one, even though its about different people. I am going to take my time before reading the next one in the series!
So, here we go, all the seven books I read in Feb. Comment and let me know, how your year is going so far? Read any good books? Let me know!

My January Wrap up | 2020
The New year brought me into such an optimistic reading mood in Jan, that I managed to finish 4 books out of 6 from my planned TBR.
Though I did not read that many books and did not complete my TBR, it was still a good reading month for me as I liked almost all the books I read.
I started my year with mystery/thriller, which I was craving at that time and this book delivered a wild ride. I liked it a lot, gave it 4 stars

This is my favourite so far in 2020, another horror gem by Darcy Coates. I read her 'Dead Lake' last year and I really liked that. Decided to pick this pick based on its premise, loved it! 4.5 Stars read for me, few characters were a little irritating but otherwise I LOVED it!

Finally I read the eight book in 'A series of unfortunate events' after so many months of procrastination.Really a dumb move,it was good and my favourite by far in the series.Really want to see what is going to happen with the children after that cliffhanger.
4.5 stars!
4.5 stars!
This was my last read of the month, finished on the very last day of January.
My feelings for this is quite complex. There were few things I really liked and few things really bugged me.Gave it 3 stars

I also started 'Emma' by Jane Austen but only read 20% of it and put it down for another time, I will pick it back when my mood strikes for classics. Will be continuing it then.
That's it for the Jan wrap up, hope to have a better reading in February (SPOILER ALERT : It's not going very well!)

Oct Wrap Up! | 2019
I read 12 books in the month of October, out of which, only 2 were actually from my TBR (No surprise here!).
Why I make TBR again? Oh right, because I like doing that shit!
Anyways!
I finished two romance series (published so far)
This was a roller-coaster ride for me.
I really liked few books in the series ( book #1,3,6 & 8 - 4 stars), few were quite average ( book #3 - 3 stars) and the rest - I loved! ( book #4, 5 & 7 - 5 stars)

So, there was no bad book in this.
I have read all eight main books in the series with short stories in between.
Really looking forward to more in the series. Eighth book ended with a big revelation at the end. I am eager to find what is going to happen next!
This is another rock star romance series I found last month. There are five books out so far and I binge read the while thing.Did not start very well but it does get better.
Quite addictive series, you can't help but root for these characters in this band.
Storm - 2 stars
Vandal - 3 Stars
Lukas - 4 Stars

Top 5 Reads So far this year! (Till Sept 2019)
Just like last year,I am going to do my five best reads till Sept ( see last year post here).
Overall 2019 has been an okay year for me in terms of reading. I have read 51 books so far with lots of 4 stars but not many favorites. Still, I am going to discuss few books which genuinely touched my heart and mind....So here we go! (These are in no particular order)
WARBREAKER BY BRANDON SANDERSON - If you love fantasy but do not want to commit to a big series, I will definitely suggest you to pick this one up. Great choice if you want some great characters with unique magic system and world building
Full Review here
GHOSTED BY JM DARHOWER - 'Ghosted' is a beautiful and emotional story of second chance in love, simultaneously dealing with some in depth talk of self love and parental love. Usually that kind of premise is either a hit or miss for me, but something about the way characters were written in this one (flawed yet likable) and their relationship, made this book memorable and heart touching for me.
Full Review here
HOW TO BE A NORMAL PERSON BY TJ KLUNE - TJ Klune is a hit or miss author me and with this series he was a massive hit! I especially loved this first book. Don't think I ever have that much fun reading from a character perspective as I had while reading from Gus's.If you love funny contemporary gay romance with awesome characters, this is one book for you.
Full Review here
SEVEN AND HALF DEATHS OF EVELYN HARDCASTLE - This has to be the most engaging book I have read this year. So while I am really not a very big reader of mystery thriller genre, I do sometimes come across the books with interesting premise that makes me excited to read them - 'The seven and half deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' was one of them and I, not in the least was disappointed by the execution. This book has such an interesting plot and subplots within it, that I was completely hooked
Full Review here
PURE RAPTURE BY AJA JAMES - Pure/ Dark Ones is one series i started randomly with Pure healing and it gets better as it is progressing. 'Pure Rapture' is the fifth book in this series and have my favourite couple so far. Absolutely loved Tal and Ishtar, though Tal is going to be my all time favourite character in this series! Need to continue this series, but will probably reread this for the refresher first!
So, that's it for my top five list but I am really hoping to read few more good books and add them in my favourite list by the end of this year.

(A Very Late) July Wrap up | 2019
This was quite a great month for me. I read so much and managed to finished 14 books, quite a high number for me! Out of those, 4 were from my TBR, so I feel great! :-)))
Lovesongs Series by Megan Derr- This series was a let down for me. We have a total of 4 books about a band and each book follows a band member's love story. I gave the first and second book 4 stars and rest two books were three stars read for me.
Despite my high rating, the first book 'The Missing Butterfly' was an underwhelming read for me, as I was expecting to totally love this book. The premise was cool, in the end, I still liked it but it was pretty forgettable and quite okay.
The second book 'Love you like a romance novel' was quite good and despite that unrhyming weird title I liked it. But with the third and fourth one - 'Shine Forever' and 'Two for the show', this series went downhill for me. I liked the characters but the story and their relationship were quite average for me.
The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon (Rest of 30%)- After reading it for the last three months, I finally finished it and while I really liked the world-building and concept of the book, the execution was quite slow and disappointing in some places.
Unwind (Unwind #1) by Neal Shusterman - A complete surprise and a very unique premise. It was everything I would like to read in my YA dystopian series, but fortunately, this world has more books for me to read, which I will definitely do!
4.75 Stars! Full Review here
Queen's Thief (Book 2 & 3) by Megan Whalen Turner (Reread) - This was my reread for this awesome series. Still one of my favs! The way Megan Whalen Turner takes the whole story and politics on another level, just make me gobble it all up so fast! Very eagerly waiting for the sixth book. in the meanwhile, I still have 4th & 5th book for the reread! Full 5 Stars!
Winston Brothers (Books 0.5-4) by Penny Reid - It was an unexpected read for me. I read the first four books plus one related book from another spin-off series (Knitting in the city #4). It was a fun time, enjoyed the heck out of it. My favourite has to be 'Grin and beard it' so far and cannot wait to read about the youngest Winston 'Roscoe' next. But for me, the most anticipated book has to be about Billy which has yet to come out.
Ratings -
#0.5 Beauty and the Mustache - 3 Stars
#1 Truth or Beard - 4 Stars
#2 Grin & Beard it - 5 Stars
#3 Beard Science - 5 Stars
#4 Beard in Mind - 5 Stars
Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne - I have no words to express how I felt about this one. So different from my usual go-to books, this was a complete change for me and I came out quite a bit disturbed and affected from this.
When ambition takes a very dark turn, you see the ugly nature of a human being. This is the story of Maurice, an aspiring writer and the people in his life he ruins due to his ambition. It was definitely a sad experience for me and I felt bad for so many characters. But I loved the way Boyne portrayed this story and loved to hate the MC from every fibre of my being.
Rating - 4 Stars!

June Wrap up (2019)
June was a weird month for me. It started out very well, I started with a book from my TBR and read it as well as its sequel. Then it all went downhill and I randomly started picking romance (which is easy to pick in a slump). And that's how I finished 5 books this month.
The Innocent Mage & The Awakened Mage (Kingmaker, Kingbreaker #1 & #2) by Karen Miller
First Book was basically a surprise for me. I read quite a lot of negative reviews and the whole setup is something which you must have seen a lot. It's basically 'a chosen one' trope and our main character is too good at everything and stuff happens to him basically overnight. But I loved it! Chosen One is one of my favourite tropes in fantasy and I enjoyed the heck out of it.
The second book was another story - It was a bit of let down and ending was quite underwhelming. It was slow paced and almost nothing happened in 70% of the book.
The Innocent Mage (4 Stars) - Full Review
The Awakened Mage (3 Stars) - Full Review
Dark Pleasures & Dark Rapture (Pure/Dark Ones #4 & #5) by Aja James
Pure/Dark Ones is one series which have been improving as it is progressing. The First book, 'Pure Healing', was an okay book, but as I continued with the later books this series just got better.
'Dark Pleasure is the fourth book with an awesome couple and their awesome relationship! I loved both Devlin and Grace and how their relationship progresses later.
But fifth 'Dark Rapture' wins the price for being the best book so far in the series and all because of our couple. I loved Tal and Ishtar and Tal is my favourite character in the whole series so far. As usual, I loved Aja's ability to include their past with the present story. Here in case, we go way back, when Tal is a blacksmith son and Ishtar is the dark princess. I loved their devotion to each other and how it was still there even after a million years of separation. It was heartwarming, heart- wrenching and sweet all in one as I finished it.
Cannot wait to read the next one!
Full 5 Stars for both books!
The Savior (Black Dagger Brotherhood #17) by J.R Ward

The 17th book in a very long series and still going very strong! I really did not even remember who Murhder was when I read about him in the last book but as we progressed with this book I started warming up to him more and more! I really liked Sarah and reading about our old characters was everything. Really waiting for Trez and Selena's book next.
While not my favourite it was definitely a good read for me!
Rating - 4 Stars!
So that's it for my reading wrap up! As usual, I am also in the middle of a few books which I will discuss in my TBR.
So Stay tuned!
Comment below and let me know how was your reading month!

May Wrap up | 2019
May was an okay month for me in terms of reading. I managed to finish 7 books, out of which 3 were from my scheduled TBR.So, it was more than I was expecting by the last week.
I was on roll with this series and managed to finish the whole series in the first half of this year. Though not a super big fan in the starting, this series got better as it progresses. We get the conclusion of the original trilogy with 'The Battlemage' and a shorter prequel with 'The Outcast' - It was good!
The Battlemage - 4.5 Stars (Goodreads)
The Outcast - 4.25 Stars ( Goodreads)
The Shock of the Fall' is the story of a man's journey of guilt, grief and struggle with schizophrenia after he loses his older brother in an accident as a child. This is my first Contemporary mental health read and I really liked it!
Full Review of the book here
First one is about Gus and his hilarious attempt to become a normal person when Casey, an asexual stoner hipster enters in his carefully organized life. It was funny, sweet and awesome!
First Book Review here (5 Stars)
The second one was as awesome as the first one and follows a demisexual character who appeared in the first book and his story of starring in a movie and finding love on the way. It was as funny as the first one and as awesome.
4.5 Stars (Goodreads)
This is a new YA romance book with lots of sweetness, romance and politics. Here we follow Alex, the first Son of America and his life in the white house and his romance with Royal Prince Henry. I loved how their relationship progresses and absolutely loved Alex. Henry was a little annoying but eventually he came around and it ended perfectly.
4 Stars!
Dragon Rider is a good children fantasy book, especially for a bedtime story. We get to see Firedrake, a silver dragon, going on an impossible journey to find a safe haven for Dragons called ' Rim of Heaven', - a place which nobody is sure even exists. But Firedrake is brave enough to take that impossible task and cross half the world to search for this place. Rest is about his journey of reaching there with a brownie and human boy as a companion. They find many friends and enemies in between their journey, it was nice to experience.
I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I have read it in my childhood, still, it was a good one time read for me!
3.75 Stars!

The Battlemage & The Outcast (Summoner#3 & #4(or 0.1)) by Taran Matharu
I was on roll with this series and managed to finish the whole series in the first half of this year. Though not a super big fan in the starting, this series got better as it progresses. We get the conclusion of the original trilogy with 'The Battlemage' and a shorter prequel with 'The Outcast' - It was good!
The Battlemage - 4.5 Stars (Goodreads)
The Outcast - 4.25 Stars ( Goodreads)
The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer

How to be (Book #1 & #2) byT.J. Klune
This was a complete surprise for me. I loved the characters and representation in both of them.First one is about Gus and his hilarious attempt to become a normal person when Casey, an asexual stoner hipster enters in his carefully organized life.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey Mcquiston
This is a new YA romance book with lots of sweetness, romance and politics. Here we follow Alex, the first Son of America and his life in the white house and his romance with Royal Prince Henry. I loved how their relationship progresses and absolutely loved Alex. Henry was a little annoying but eventually he came around and it ended perfectly.
4 Stars!
Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke

My April Wrap up | 2019
April was a very busy month for me, hence I only managed to finish two books. There were a few more I was in the middle of, so let's discuss them here!
Full review here
This was one book I continued from the last month. Amazing re-read, definitely a great start to a fantastic series.Quite slow in some places but a worthy read.

Salem' s Lot by Stephen King
Salem's lot is my third read of 2019 by Stephen King and his second published novel after 'Carrie'. And I have to say this one was much more interesting to read than Carrie, even if a bit unnecessarily long.
My favourite thing about the book was definitely the story and how it was shown through different characters in the town. Overall, this is my favourite among all the Stephen King's novel but definitely not my favourite in this genre, so still waiting for that one from him.

Apart from these two finished books, I was in the middle of three unfinished books-
- The Priory of the Orange tree by Samantha Shannon
This is 800 pages long standalone epic fantasy, I am 274 pages in and still reading at a very slow pace.
- Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer
Started this in March and have read only 20-30 more pages in April. So... Yeah!!
- The Battlemage by Taran Matharu
As I am writing this post in May, I have finished this one but in April I read this up to 70% only.
So, as you can see, it was not a very good reading month for me. But definitely going to compensate this by reading more in May. Soon after this look out for my May TBR!
What you guys read? Do let me know! Comment Below and I will be happy to discuss more with you guys! :-)
