Book Review | How to be a Normal Person (How to be #1) by TJ Klune

Book Review | How to be a Normal Person (How to be #1) by TJ Klune

Gustavo Tiberius is not normal. He knows this. Everyone in his small town of Abby, Oregon, knows this. He reads encyclopedias every night before bed. He has a pet ferret called Harry S. Truman. He owns a video rental store that no one goes to. His closest friends are a lady named Lottie with drag queen hair and a trio of elderly Vespa riders known as the We Three Queens.

Gus is not normal. And he's fine with that. All he wants is to be left alone.

Until Casey, an asexual stoner hipster and the newest employee at Lottie’s Lattes enters his life. For some reason, Casey thinks Gus is the greatest thing ever. And maybe Gus is starting to think the same thing about Casey, even if Casey is obsessive about Instagramming his food.

But Gus isn’t normal and Casey deserves someone who can be. Suddenly wanting to be that someone, Gus steps out of his comfort zone and plans to become the most normal person ever.

After all, what could possibly go wrong?

MY THOUGHTS

Randomly picked this one and it was definitely one of the best decision I have ever made!

I don't think I ever have that much fun reading from a character perspective as I had while reading from Gus's. He is Grumpy, anti-social, hates social media and Micheal Bay with passion, does not want any human interaction and attachment in his perfectly organized life. He is fine and his life is okay, or that's what he thinks until one day a stoned hipster walks into his life and create chaos in his perfectly balanced routine - he hates it or maybe not?

Getting into his head was super funny! His interaction with texting, internet and broadband customer support team was hilarious, and who knew reading inspirational quotes can be so much fun! :-)) These were some funny moments for me!

A simple hello could lead to a million things. “Yeah,” Gus said. “Like herpes or getting fisted.”

“LOL. Wuteva. “What the hell does that mean?” Gus asked. “Lawl? Lole? I don’t speak youth!”

Completely adored Gus & Casey as our main couple. Loved how both were so accepting of each other. This also has to be my first book with asexual character and reading about the complications that can arise due to that in a relationship and I really liked how Gus and Casey handled it.

Reading about all the secondary characters- Gus's & Casey's friends and even Gus's ferret was awesome. I would love to be a part of this group for sure!

TJ Klune is fairly new for me despite him being such a well-loved author in m/m contemporary genre, and it is well deserved! I would surely love to read more by him -

Overall 'How to be a normal person' was a perfect combination of funny and sweet and awesome surprise for me!

I cannot wait to pick Josiah's book right away!

Fully Recommended - 5 stars!
